PROJECT

South Park: Snow Day! is a coop melee battler set in the 3D re-imagined world of South Park. It was released in 2024 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

SUMMARY

Working on Snow Day was primarily about re-imagining the world of South Park in full 3D. The challenge came from taking environments and props from the cartoon and making them plausible, as things like scale and composition evolved over the course of the show and were often changed to suit each scene shot. Environments needed to fit the aesthetic of the show while still being fun to navigate and explore. I worked on environment layouts across most areas of the game, prop modeling/outsourcing, and tools development to allow our small team to deliver at our high quality standard.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Layout - Working closely with the design team to create cohesive environments that looked like the iconic locations from the show, while still being fun to play in.

  • Texturing Tools - Authored the stylized texturing pipeline used for all props in the game, including the materials and masking setups to accumulate stylized snow and ice so the world would feel cohesive and cold.

  • Houdini Tools - Built tools to help with the iteration and management of buildings, destruction and other set piece moments.

  • Kid Construction Tool - Made a PDG powered Houdini setup that would ingest rough blocking and markup models to create polished models that looked like they were hastily made kid forts.

  • Nature Tool - Made a PDG Houdini tool for processing high poly asset scan models and stylizing them to fit the intended aesthetic.

  • Building Blueprints - Created blueprint actors to aid in decoration and maintenance of buildings, like arraying instance meshes for windows or caching necessary socket data to spawn matching light actors in their appropriate lighting scenarios.

  • Shrine Blueprints - Created adaptive blueprint decorators to match spawned NPC shop keepers to help them feel both inviting and rooted in the world.

  • Modular Weapons - Designed and authored the weapon system and most weapon models. Previous iterations of the game included weapon loot that could be freely combined, swapping pieces like blades and hilts while still looking kid crafted and whimsical.
